The Sahrawi Republic, also known as the Western Sahara, is a partially recognized state located in North Africa. The republic controls the vast majority of the Western Sahara territory, including most of the Atlantic coastline and the natural resource-rich interior, and is recognized by 47 states around the world.
The Moroccan government still considers Western Sahara as a part of its own country, and tensions continue between the two territories. The Polisario Front is the Sahrawi nationalist movement fighting for Western Sahara's independence from Morocco.
The Sahrawi Republic has a government structure of a semi-presidential republic, with a democratically-elected parliament, elected President, and Prime Minister. The economy of the Sahrawi Republic is largely based on agriculture, fishing and phosphate mining.
The population of the Sahrawi Republic is estimated to be around 500,000 individuals. They speak predominantly Hassaniya Arabic and are predominantly Muslim. Education and health implemented and managed by the Sahrawi government and the people endures severe hardships due to the tensions with Morocco and lack of international recognition from most countries.
